How do I read parcel boundaries and measurements?
Parcel boundaries
The outline drawn on the map represents the approximate shape of the selected parcel. A parcel may have four sides or more depending on its actual geometric shape.
Area and perimeter
- Area is the surface enclosed within the parcel boundary.
- Perimeter is the sum of the lengths of the parcel's sides.
- The area may be approximate when computed from the geometry.
Boundary directions
Each boundary is described by its direction:
- North boundary.
- South boundary.
- East boundary.
- West boundary.
- Compound boundaries such as north-east.
What does each boundary contain?
When available, a boundary description may show:
- The boundary length in metres.
- What it is adjacent to, which may be: a neighbouring parcel, a street, a path, or a facility.
The number of streets around the parcel is also shown when available.
Illustrative example
- North boundary: 20 m — bounded by a street.
- South boundary: 20 m — bounded by parcel no. 150.
Notice: Boundary descriptions depend on the available data, and the drawing is for guidance and does not replace an approved survey plan.
